Academic Support
As students enter middle school where the student population almost doubles compared to any elementary school, staff at Dunstan work very hard to find ways to help students grow to become their best selves. Meeting the needs of such a number of students is no small feat but everyone’s overall goal is to help students grow academically, socially and emotionally. In addition, students learning the importance of advocating for themselves, building their academic stamina, and learning how to interact with a variety of people makes middle school an incredibly important point in life.
Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Learners (Formerly English Language Learners (ELL))
The department of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) provides support for Multilingual Learners and their families through programs in English as a Second Language (ESL), Dual Language, and Adult ESL & Literacy. In addition, the department supports schools in meeting all state, federal and district guidelines for Multilingual Learners, including those regarding identification, assessment, enrollment, placement, progress monitoring and redesignation.
Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
Framework applied at the state, district, and school level that uses implementation science to create one integrated system. This system is designed to support the needs of all students. MTSS is defined as a prevention-based framework of team-driven data-based problem solving for improving the outcomes of every student through family, school, and community partnering and a layered continuum of evidence-based practices applied at the classroom, school, district, region, and state level.
