Academic Departments

Advisory currently takes place during the first 30 minutes of each school day and is very much like a homeroom class. It’s an important part of the middle school learning experience.

This time is used for:

• Building Community with a smaller group of students and a teacher
• Growing through SEL (Social Emotional Learning) lessons and circles
• Participating in Travel Days where students can get help from teachers
• Having fun in SPARK per schedule from P.E. Department (there is a rotating class schedule - all kids and staff participate)
• Open Gym (Tuesdays 6th grade and Thursdays 7/8th grade)
  • Need 3s or better on work habits
  • Nedd 2s or better for content grades
  • All assignments turned in
• Completing paperwork, cleaning and turning in Chromebooks for repair
• Returning/Checking-Out library items
• Using the library space and resources
• Making sure that students are On Track, and if not, how to get back On Track
• Keeping up with what’s happening at DMS through Patriot TV (PTV)
